When we bought our home, Hibiscus Hill, on Harbour Island, the master bedroom had wall-to-wall carpet. Taking it up, revealed that the original floor was made of tiles featuring a repeated floral pattern and a faint cross. These tiles were manufactured in Cuba and brought to Nassau in the 1950s to help in the construction of the famous landmark hotel, the British Colonial, at Number 1 Bay Street. We have great fun spotting the same tiles in the most obscure places all around the island—such as the floor of a bar in one of the less salubrious night spots. We've drawn inspiration from the beautiful motifs showcased on these tiles and created a curated collection of table linens that are a reflection of the past, but feel fresh, polished and effortlessly chic.
